Taking card payments

Card payments run through Stripe. Connecting it lets you charge a card from the payment panel, and lets customers pay themselves through your booking portal.

Without it, Axiom still records card payments you took on your own terminal - it just does not move any money. See recording payments.

Invoicing has to be switched on first. Try to connect without it and you get:

Invoicing must be enabled before connecting with Stripe. Please enable Space Booking Invoicing or Session Booking Invoicing in your module settings first.

Turn it on under Settings → General, on either module or both. Stripe exists to collect against invoices, so there is nothing for it to do until invoices exist.

Go to Tools → Integration and choose Connect with Stripe.

Setup is hosted by Stripe, not by Axiom. You are handed over to them to enter your business and bank details, and returned when it is done. Axiom never sees or stores your bank details, and never sees a customer’s card number.

The card on the Integrations page tells you where you are:

StateWhat you see
Not startedConnect with Stripe
Setup incomplete”Setup incomplete - payments cannot be processed until you finish.” with Resume Setup
Under review”Your account is under review by Stripe. No action needed.” with a Pending Review badge

Under review needs nothing from you. Stripe checks some accounts before releasing them, and it clears on its own.

Customers pay you directly. The money lands in your own Stripe account and is paid out to your bank on your own Stripe payout schedule - it does not pass through Axiom and is never held by us.

Axiom takes a small platform fee per transaction, capped. Stripe’s own processing fees are separate and are set by Stripe.

Because the account is yours, refunds, payout timing, disputes and statements are all managed from your own Stripe Dashboard, which you can sign into directly.

  • Card payments on the payment panel - a card form appears and the card is charged as you record it
  • Customers paying in your portal - they pay for a booking at the point of making it, and for a place at the point of joining an open session
  • Card refunds that actually move money, rather than only being recorded

Without Stripe, all three still work as bookkeeping - invoices are raised and payments recorded - you just collect the money yourself. That is an ordinary way to run, not a degraded one. See open bookings for what a portal customer sees either way.

Disconnect on the Stripe card, and confirm:

Are you sure you want to disconnect Stripe? This will stop payment processing immediately.

It means what it says. Card payments stop at once, in the app and in your portal. Existing invoices and recorded payments are untouched - you simply go back to collecting by cash, cheque or your own terminal.

You can reconnect later.
